Cropping

Waikiwi undertook a maize silage enterprise in 2003. Long term relationships with local and the wider North Waikato dairy farmers have been established supplying quality maize silage sold on contract. Up to 155 hectares is grown each year supplying up to 15 clients.

Waikiwi employs an independent agronomist who assists in managing a sustainable fertiliser program to promote a long term intensive cropping program. Extensive soil testing is performed annually before cultivation. A combination of organic and conventional fertilisers are utilised based on a needs only basis subject to soil type and yield potential. Careful consideration is taken around managing various soil types, establishment costs, soil health, and net profit. Waikiwi enjoys the services of well respected agricultural contractors for the establishment and harvesting of maize silage.
